An organic cotton hoodie is not a garment like any other: it is a living, breathable material that holds the memory of the hand and the body. Washing it means extending its life, but also preserving what makes it strong—its softness, its density, its truth. At Tafanelli, every hoodie is designed to last. It is up to you to treat it with the same care.

TAFANELLI. Organic cotton, density, and the patience of washing.
A living fabric
Organic cotton is a natural, untreated fiber, and therefore more sensitive. It reacts to heat, humidity, and friction. Where industrial cotton can withstand harshness, organic cotton prefers precision. It thrives when treated with respect. It is this difference that makes it beautiful—and delicate.
A Tafanelli hoodie, made from 450 GSM cotton, possesses a rare density. This is what gives it its structure, its drape, and its warmth. But this density requires moderation when washing. The goal is not to purify it, but to refresh it.
The right temperature
Organic cotton should be washed at 30°C. No higher. Lukewarm water cleanses without agitation. Beyond that, the fiber tightens, contracts, and loses its suppleness. At 30°C, the material retains its memory and its feel. It is the temperature of care, the temperature of the workshop, and of loyalty to the fabric.
If the hoodie is stained, pre-treat the area by hand with mild soap before machine washing. Hot water and long cycles will only exhaust the fiber.
The right cycle
Choose a short, delicate cycle, such as "light cotton" or "wool." 800 rpm is sufficient. Excessive spin speeds pull on the seams, fatigue the knit, and deform the hood. The hoodie should turn slowly, as if it were floating. This gentle movement cleanses deeply without altering the fabric's structure.
Before washing, turn the hoodie inside out: this protects the outer face, the pocket edges, and the drawstrings. The dense areas need to breathe without friction. It is a simple, yet essential precaution.
Gentle detergent
Use a natural, liquid detergent without bleaching agents or industrial fragrances. Organic cotton absorbs everything—water, soap, odors. A simple formula based on vegetable soap or baking soda is enough. This seemingly trivial gesture preserves the hoodie's hue and the fineness of the carded cotton.
Absolutely avoid fabric softeners. They leave a film that clogs the fiber, alters its breathability, and makes the cotton more fragile in the long run.
Slow drying
Tumble drying is prohibited. It tightens the knit, breaks the texture, and reduces the garment's lifespan. Lay your hoodie flat to dry on a clean towel or a wide drying rack. Heavy cotton retains its shape when it dries slowly in the open air. Wind and time do better than any machine.
In Tafanelli workshops, hoodies always rest for several hours after ironing to stabilize the fiber. This waiting time is part of the craftsmanship. At home, the logic is the same: patience and consistency.
Proper ironing
If needed, iron your hoodie inside out, with a lukewarm iron and no direct steam. Excessive heat alters the surface of organic cotton. Always place a thin cloth between the iron and the fabric. The movement should be slow, without pressing down. The goal is not to flatten, but to guide the fiber.
This slow, precise care is what distinguishes a well-maintained garment from a consumed one. It is a way of saying to the cotton: I respect you.
The hoodie of time
A well-washed hoodie is one that ages gracefully. Organic cotton develops a patina, softens, and harmonizes with the body. Each wash should extend this beauty of time, not correct it. At Tafanelli, we believe a garment is never finished: it continues to be made in your hands, day after day, wash after wash.
The key, always, remains slowness. Washing less, washing better, letting it rest. That rhythm is the rhythm of the real—the rhythm of the sea, the wind, and the artisanal touch.
