Le Geppetto in Bastia: our favorite restaurant, and the Neapolitan pizzas that thrill us
There are some places you discover by chance and which, in just a few months, become touchstones. Places where you go without a reservation when you simply want to eat well. Where you bring friends who are visiting without hesitation. Where you know the team, the regulars, the recipes, and the little details that make the difference. In Bastia, since we moved into the old town, this place is called Le Geppetto. An Italian restaurant nestled in the old town's former stables, a dome-shaped wood-fired oven from which the best Neapolitan pizzas in all of Corsica emerge, a terrace under plane trees, and a Negroni that is a benchmark in the industry. Here is why Le Geppetto has become our favorite restaurant in Bastia.
Le Geppetto, our favorite address in Bastia
Since we settled in Bastia in the spring of 2026, we have discovered the city with the fresh eyes of someone arriving and learning a new address, a shortcut, or a familiar face every day. Bastia is a city of trattorias, family-run pizzerias, and historic bistros. There are dozens of them, many of which are excellent. Choosing a favorite restaurant in a city like Bastia is a real task.
And yet, in just a few months, Le Geppetto has established itself as the place. The one where you go without a reservation when you want to eat simply well. The one where you bring friends who are passing through, confident that they will understand the Corsican and Italian spirit that breathes through Bastia. The one where you have a Negroni at the bar while waiting for your table without getting bored. The one where you feel at home.
Le Geppetto did not buy this recognition through communication or marketing campaigns. It earned it silently, address by address, table by table, year after year. Today, it is one of the few places in Bastia that appears in every tourist guide while remaining one of the locals' own favorite spots. A rare feat.
A restaurant that appeals to both locals and tourists is a restaurant that has understood something essential: you don't have to choose between the two audiences. You have to be true to yourself. Le Geppetto is faithful to its idea of Neapolitan pizza, its idea of an Italian setting, and its idea of Corsican hospitality. This loyalty pays off.
This article is not a neutral guide. It is an unapologetic tribute to a place that matters to us. We wanted to talk about it here because Le Geppetto perfectly illustrates what TAFANELLI seeks to champion: precision in craftsmanship, fidelity to traditions, local roots, and human warmth. It is our favorite restaurant in Bastia, and we are going to explain why in detail.
Where to find Le Geppetto
Le Geppetto is located in the heart of Bastia's old town, in the historic district of Terra Vecchia.
The address
1 Boulevard Général Giraud, 20200 Bastia
This location is ideal, just a few minutes' walk from:
- The Old Port and its seaside restaurants.
- Place Saint-Nicolas, the largest square in Corsica.
- The Citadel and its Governors' Palace.
- The ancient narrow streets of Terra Vecchia, the city's historic district.

Parking
The neighborhood is pedestrianized and surrounded by regulated zones. Here are a few options:
- Vieux Port Parking: 5 minutes' walk, paid.
- Saint-Nicolas Parking: 8 minutes' walk, paid.
- Blue Zone in the surrounding streets (time-limited during the day).
The best option remains coming on foot if you are staying in the city center, or by taxi to avoid parking hassles.
A unique space: the former stables
The first striking thing about Le Geppetto is the space itself. A place that has history, soul, and stone. You don't enter a standard restaurant dining room; you enter former stables converted with immense respect for their original architecture.
A brick barrel-vault ceiling
The main interior room is covered by a brick barrel-vault ceiling, typical of 19th-century urban stable architecture. This vault creates a unique, warm, almost religious acoustic. Conversations resonate softly without clashing. Each table retains its privacy despite the proximity of others.
Stone and wood
The walls retain their exposed stone, thick and raw. The furniture features warm, dark, patinated wood. The combination creates an atmosphere reminiscent of traditional Italian trattorias—the kind found in the old quarters of Naples, Rome, or Florence. An obvious and intentional nod to the Neapolitan origin of the menu.
Lighting
The lighting is dimmed in the evening, with filament bulbs casting a warm glow. During the day, natural light streams in through the large openings, softening the space. It is a place that lends itself to intimate dinners, long discussions, and moments that take their time.
There are few restaurants in Bastia that benefit from such a strong architectural setting. Le Geppetto didn't have to create an ambiance: it was already there in the walls. It just had the wisdom to respect and highlight it. This is a rare practice in the world of contemporary dining, where the tendency is often to impose a decor rather than honor a space.
The terrace under the plane trees
In fine weather, the outdoor terrace becomes the essential meeting place. Located on the boulevard, it is shaded by large, century-old plane trees that filter the light and create a cool microclimate even in the heat of a Bastia summer.
The Mediterranean vibe
Dining under plane trees in a city like Bastia is a pure Mediterranean experience. The gentle sound of the leaves, the dappled light moving across the tablecloth, and passersby strolling slowly through the old town all compose a scene you won't find anywhere else.
The terrace is particularly appreciated for:
- Summer lunches, in the shade of the trees, when the heat rises in the city center.
- Dinners on pleasant evenings, when the cool of the night sets in and Bastia comes alive.
- Aperitifs before a dinner indoors, with a Negroni or a Spritz at the bar.
- Group meals with friends, where a convivial atmosphere is paramount.
Reservation recommended
Since the terrace has limited seating and is highly popular, it is strongly advised to book in advance, especially in July and August. On weekends, allow at least 48 to 72 hours in advance to ensure you get a table on the terrace.
Authentic Neapolitan cuisine
Le Geppetto is, above all, an address dedicated to southern Italian cuisine, with a strong focus on the Neapolitan tradition. This strong editorial choice structures the entire menu.
Why Naples
Naples is likely the city that has contributed most to the global imagination of Italian cuisine. Pizza in its modern form was invented there in the 18th century. Fresh pasta achieved its perfection there. Southern cuisine—rich in tomatoes, mozzarella, olive oil, basil, and anchovies—has its deepest roots there.
Choosing Naples as a reference point means choosing the most demanding tradition of Italian cuisine. It is not a marketing choice, but a strong editorial decision that requires respecting precise rules regarding preparation, ingredients, and temperature.
Respected Neapolitan principles
At Le Geppetto, several principles of authentic Neapolitan cuisine are scrupulously respected:
- A dough worked over a long period, with slow fermentation that gives the crust its lightness and digestibility.
- Selected ingredients: Mozzarella di Bufala Campana, San Marzano DOP for the tomato sauce, fresh basil, extra-virgin olive oil.
- Wood-fired oven cooking, at a very high temperature, to obtain the characteristic texture (soft in the center, crispy at the edges).
- A very short cooking time (60 to 90 seconds for a pizza), which preserves the freshness of the ingredients.
- A deliberately concise menu, to allow each dish to be executed to perfection.
Making real Neapolitan pizza means refusing all shortcuts: industrial dough, cheap mozzarella, electric ovens, standardized ingredients. Le Geppetto rejects these shortcuts. This is what explains the result on your plate.
The dome-shaped wood-fired oven, the heart of the place
At the back of the main dining room sits the dome-shaped wood-fired oven. It is the beating heart of Le Geppetto, the organ that sets the rhythm for the entire kitchen, and the hub around which service is organized.
A traditional Neapolitan oven
The dome oven is the historical format of the Neapolitan pizza oven. Its spherical shape allows for perfect heat distribution, with a temperature reaching 450 to 500 degrees Celsius on the oven floor. It is this extreme temperature that allows for the 60-to-90-second cooking time characteristic of true Neapolitan pizza.
The wood used for heating is generally oak or beech, species that burn for a long time and impart a light smoky fragrance to the dough.
The spectacle of preparation
One of the pleasures of Le Geppetto is watching the pizzaiolo at work. The preparation of the pizzas happens in front of the customers in a precise ballet: hand-stretching the dough (never with a rolling pin or machine), quick garnishing, sliding it into the oven with a wooden peel, monitoring the cook, rotating, taking it out, and slicing.
This spectacle is a reminder that pizza is not an industrial dish. It is an artisanal skill that is passed down, learned, and perfected over years. Each pizzaiolo has their own style, their own signature in the gesture.
The Neapolitan pizza menu
The pizza menu at Le Geppetto is deliberately limited to ensure the excellence of each item. You won't find 30 different pizzas here. You will find about 15, all executed to perfection.
Neapolitan classics
The foundational pizzas of the tradition, those you must try at least once:
- Marinara: San Marzano tomato sauce, garlic, oregano, olive oil. No cheese. The original pizza, the purest, the most difficult to master.
- Margherita: San Marzano tomato sauce, buffalo mozzarella, fresh basil, olive oil. Created in 1889 in honor of Queen Margherita of Savoy (red, white, green = Italian flag). The ultimate test of a pizzaiolo's craft.
- Diavola: Tomato sauce, mozzarella, salame piccante (mild Italian chorizo). The pizza for lovers of controlled heat.
- Regina: Mozzarella, cured ham, mushrooms. A safe bet.
Signature creations
Beyond the classics, Le Geppetto offers several original creations that showcase rare Italian or Corsican products:
- Pizzas with truffle (seasonal).
- Pizzas with Pugliese burrata added after baking.
- White pizzas (no tomato sauce), with ricotta and vegetables.
- Occasionally, pizzas that incorporate Corsican products (brocciu, coppa, figs, maquis honey) in an Italian-Corsican dialogue.
Prices
Pizzas are priced between €11.50 and €18 depending on the selection. Excellent value for money for the quality offered, especially in downtown Bastia.
Homemade fresh pasta
Beyond the pizzas, Le Geppetto excels in homemade fresh pasta. It is the second pillar of the menu and likely one of the most underestimated by new customers who come only for the pizzas.
Truffle gnocchi
The cult dish at Le Geppetto. Homemade gnocchi—fluffy, airy—served with a fresh truffle sauce (seasonal) and Reggiano parmesan. It is the dish that every regular recommends to a newcomer. There are few truffle gnocchi of this caliber in Corsica.
Other fresh pasta
The menu varies according to the seasons and arrivals, but one regularly finds:
- Tagliatelle with traditional carbonara (with real guanciale, never cream).
- Pappardelle with a slow-simmered Bolognese sauce.
- Linguine with seafood depending on the catch.
- Homemade ravioli with various stuffings (ricotta-spinach, brocciu-mint, and others seasonally).
Pasta prices range between €14 and €16.50. Excellent value for money for homemade dishes of this level.
Cocktails and the signature Negroni
Le Geppetto is not just a restaurant. It is also a place where you can have an excellent cocktail, at the bar or while waiting for a table.
The Negroni
The house specialty. The Geppetto Negroni is considered by many locals in Bastia to be the best in the city. A classic Italian cocktail (Campari, red vermouth, gin, orange zest), it is prepared here with select ingredients and precise measurements that make all the difference.
It is the perfect aperitif before the Neapolitan pizzas. Crisp bitterness, citrus notes, length on the palate: everything is perfectly calibrated.
Other cocktails
The cocktail menu, shorter than the pizza list but just as demanding, also offers:
- Aperol or Campari Spritz: the essentials of the Italian aperitif.
- Americano: a lighter and more refreshing version of the Negroni.
- Bellini: Prosecco and peach purée, Italian sweetness.
- House creations that change according to the seasons and the bartender's inspiration.
Wine list
A fine selection of Italian wines (Chianti, Barolo, Brunello di Montalcino) as well as Corsican wines from neighboring AOCs (Patrimonio, Cap Corse). Wine by the glass is available, allowing you to try several vintages without commitment. To learn more about Corsican wines, consult our complete guide to AOC Corsican wines.
Artisan desserts
After the pizzas and pasta, the homemade artisan desserts extend the Italian journey.
The essentials
- Tiramisu: the classic Neapolitan version, with Italian mascarpone, espresso coffee, and bitter cocoa. The benchmark.
- Panna cotta: served with a seasonal red fruit coulis or salted caramel.
- Sicilian Cannoli (subject to availability): these crispy biscuits filled with sweetened ricotta and pistachios, a Sicilian specialty.
- Homemade chocolate fondant, with a molten center.
- Artisan sorbets and ice creams depending on the season.
An Italian espresso to finish the meal in true style.
The Geppetto experience: our tips
After months of frequenting Geppetto, here are our tips for getting the most out of your first visit.
The ideal time
Our preferred slot: 7:30 PM on weekdays. You arrive right at the start of evening service, you have a choice of tables (with any luck, the terrace), the team is fresh, and the service is fluid. After 8:30 PM, the crowd picks up and the wait can be felt.
The perfect combo
For a first visit, our go-to order:
- A Negroni as an aperitif.
- A Margherita to test the pizzaiolo's absolute mastery.
- A portion of truffle gnocchi to share as a starter if in season.
- A tiramisu and an Italian espresso to finish.
This combination allows you to sample the three pillars of the menu (pizza, pasta, dessert) and the signature cocktail. The total budget: around €40 to €50 per person. Excellent value for money.
Errors to avoid
- Not booking on weekends in the summer: you risk leaving empty-handed.
- Arriving after 9 PM without notice: the kitchen may have closed orders.
- Sticking only to the pizzas: the fresh pasta is just as remarkable.
- Skipping the Negroni: it's a signature you won't forget.
Geppetto rewards those who take their time. Those who start with a cocktail at the bar. Those who order an appetizer before the pizza. Those who finish with a dessert and an espresso. Those who stay to chat at the table after the meal. It’s not fast food. It’s a contemporary trattoria, with the rhythm of a contemporary trattoria.

The TAFANELLI wardrobe for an evening at Geppetto
Geppetto is neither a stuffy upscale restaurant nor a casual fast-food joint. It is a venue that deserves a wardrobe to match: neat without being formal, warm without being sloppy. That is exactly the spirit of our TAFANELLI collection.
Our essentials for an evening at Geppetto
- The Corsica 1755 t-shirt: elegant, understated, perfect for a terrace dinner in Bastia. The tribute to Paoli is particularly appropriate in a city where one discovers its historical roots.
- The new La Trinità t-shirt: the Corsican landscape trinity, embodied in a piece that goes very well with Geppetto's Italo-Corsican spirit.
- The Mediterranean Diver t-shirt: 280g/m² cotton Made in France, impeccable drape for summer evenings when the coolness gently descends upon Bastia.
- The Corsican Bandana: a signature accessory, discreet, which adds an extra touch to an evening outfit.
- The Roccapina Oiled Jacket: for evenings when the evening breeze picks up, thrown over the shoulders or worn over a t-shirt.
Going to Geppetto wearing TAFANELLI means seeking consistency between the quality of the place and the quality of what you wear. A 280g/m² cotton Made in France, a design that makes sense, a straight cut: it is the wardrobe that perfectly accompanies a wood-fired Neapolitan pizza and an artisan Negroni. Every right action calls for another right action.
