Mediterranean Wardrobe | 2026 Guide
The 8 Corsican brands to know in 2026
An island of 340,000 inhabitants, and an entire generation of clothing brands born there. Some print in Calvi, others design in Bastia, Corte, Saint-Florent, or Porto-Vecchio. They all share the same constraints and the same privilege: creating something beautiful far from the mainstream, on a territory that does not forgive shortcuts. Here are the eight names we are watching, and why.
What really makes a Corsican brand
The word has become broad. Today, all it takes is a flag printed on a textile bought by the kilo to present yourself as a Corsican brand. We believe the criteria lie elsewhere, and they boil down to three simple points.
The Roots. The brand was born here, works here, and pays its bills here. It's not a backdrop; it's an address.
The Craft. Someone designs, someone prints, someone sews. The shorter and more identifiable the chain, the more authentic the brand.
The Story. A Corsican brand tells a story that cannot be told elsewhere. A village, a trade, a language, a light. Otherwise, it's just a logo on cotton.
We have developed these criteria in detail in our in-depth article, Corsican Brand: what it means, and how to recognize the real thing. The ranking that follows is based on them.
There is no hierarchy in this list. There are eight different ways to love the same island.
1. TAFANELLI | Bastia
Let's start with us, since this is our journal and we're not going to pretend we aren't on the list.
TAFANELLI was born in Bastia. The name comes from Dominique Tafanelli, of Montemaggiore, in Balagne. The brand designs pieces that tell the story of the island through its trades and figures: the shepherd and his donkey, the diver of Calvi, sea urchin fishing, the "nustrale." Each drawing is a verified story before it is a motif.
Technically, the house maintains a strict line: 280 g/m² premium organic cotton, pre-washed, generous straight cut, and hand-screen printing. A large part of production is French. Runs are short and intentionally limited: a sold-out model is not always restocked.
In 2024, the brand was a winner of the Prix Ami Paris and distinguished by the Ministry of Culture. It is available in about thirty locations in Corsica and on the mainland, and works with island institutions such as the Grand Hôtel de Cala Rossa, Chez Léon in Cateri, or U Nichjaretu.
For whom. Those who want to wear Corsica without caricaturing it, and who prefer a piece that lasts ten years over three that you replace every summer.
The piece to know
LE NUSTRALE | Parcours la Corse × Les Cartes de Gabin
The Corsican word for "from here." 280 g/m² organic cotton, hand-screen printed. Short run, September 2026 restock available.
2. Mare di Latte | Porto-Vecchio
By far the most widely distributed of the Corsican brands. Mare di Latte was born in Porto-Vecchio in the late 2000s, founded by Stéphanie Raffaelli de Peretti. Today, it has over a hundred points of sale worldwide, a feat no other brand born on the island has achieved.
The collection is feminine, resort-style, and intentionally minimalist: fine materials, sober cuts, light palette. The name already tells the color: milk sea. It is a Mediterranean summer wardrobe more than an identity-based one, and that is a deliberate choice.
One point is worth noting, because we would say it for ourselves: manufacturing takes place in India, for the quality of materials and local artisanal expertise. This takes nothing away from the brand's Corsican origin; it merely specifies where its craft is located. Mare di Latte is a Corsican brand of design, not island production.
Porto-Vecchio is also a significant starting point. It's the south, the beaches of Palombaggia and Santa Giulia, and an international clientele present on-site every summer.
For whom. A minimalist feminine summer wardrobe, to wear from Porto-Vecchio to Mykonos without changing registers.
3. Benoa | Saint-Florent
The dean of this list. Benoa was born in Saint-Florent in 2005, led by two sisters, Anne and Virginie Canioni. Twenty years later, the brand has become a signature of the gulf, with a feminine seaside wardrobe: fluid dresses, prints, and light fabrics designed for the summers of the Nebbiu.
What Benoa succeeded in doing before everyone else is longevity. Surviving two decades on an island where the season lasts only four months requires a commercial discipline that many underestimate.
For whom. A feminine, sunny summer wardrobe that avoids folklore.
4. Maison Macci | Calvi
Maison Macci works from the Balagne, with a studio near Calvi. The name is derived from the end of the founder's surname, and the brand was born after the birth of her son, which explains the importance placed on children's and family pieces.
The technical point that sets it apart: Oeko-Tex certified printed fabrics, including a coral pattern that has become its trademark. The brand maintains controlled production, in small quantities, with direct oversight of its prints.
For whom. Those seeking an identifiable print and material quality rather than a message.
5. Cori Corsu
Cori Corsu was built on a simple and rare idea: using the t-shirt as a tool for solidarity. The brand presents itself as the first Corsican brand of charity t-shirts, in organic cotton, with a portion of each sale directed toward the protection of the island.
The premise is activist; the execution remains sober. It is a brand of conviction before being a fashion brand, and they own that.
For whom. Those who want their purchase to serve a purpose beyond the garment.
6. Mi Piace | Ajaccio
Mi Piace operates from Ajaccio, with a direct focus: the language. Pieces feature inscriptions in Corsican—short, often funny, always accurate. The brand understood that a well-chosen word is worth more than a large drawing.
For many young islanders, it is also a gateway to the language. Wearing a phrase in Corsican forces you to know what it means. We devoted an entire article to this subject, the Corsican language, history and renaissance.
For whom. Those who want to wear the language, not just the landscape.
7. Sgiò Corsica | Corte
Born in Corte, at the center of the island and its historic capital, Sgiò Corsica claims a clear line: "more than clothes, wear a symbol." The collection is urban, streetwear, and is aimed primarily at an island youth that did not identify with "souvenir" clothing.
Corte is not a detail. It is the university town, where Corsican youth gather nine months of the year. A brand born there is born in the right place. We talk about it in our guide to Corte.
For whom. A youthful, identity-conscious wardrobe, worn daily and not just in August.
8. Biancu-Neru
The name says it all: white and black, the two colors of the flag, the two colors of the island. Biancu-Neru displays a promise of method, "Styled and Printed in Corsica," meaning designed and printed on-site.
It's a commitment few brands make publicly because it is verifiable. Printing in Corsica costs more than printing elsewhere. Stating it in writing means accepting being audited.
For whom. Those who want a short chain and a clear graphic identity.
How to choose your Corsican brand
Three questions are enough, and they work for any brand, here or elsewhere.
- Where is the piece made, and where is it printed? A brand that answers precisely is a brand that knows. A brand that remains vague has a reason to stay vague.
- What is the fabric weight? Below 180 g/m², the t-shirt won't make it through two summers. Above 250, it will age well. We work with 280.
- Does the design tell a story? A pattern that could be sold in Ibiza by changing the name of the island is not a Corsican pattern.
To go further into codes, materials, and pieces, our complete 2026 guide to Corsican clothing details all of this.
Our manifesto piece
LA TRINITÀ | BLACK
Mare, Muntagna, Machja. The three landscapes that make up Corsica, united on one piece. 280 g/m² organic cotton, hand-screen printed.
Beyond clothing: three Corsican brands that matter
This list is a fashion list. But you cannot speak of Corsican brands without mentioning three houses that have proven, before us and better than us, that a brand born on the island can hold its place anywhere.
Casanera | Balagne
Cosmetics and perfume. Founded in 2010 by Marie Ceccaldi and her sister Maria Battaglia, the house was born from a childhood spent among the flowers of Balagne and a family tradition centered on plants. Myrtles, immortelles, junipers, and lentisks are hand-picked in the maquis, then distilled in Balagne. Casanera is now in Le Bon Marché and in luxury hotels around the world. It is the demonstration that a properly told maquis is worth any storytelling.
Pietra | Furiani
The brewery that gave a beer back to the island. Celebrating its thirty years in 2026, Pietra established chestnut as a signature and found its place on every table in Corsica before conquering the mainland. We devoted an entire article to it, Pietra, 30 years.
L.N. Mattei | Bastia
The absolute dean. Louis-Napoléon Mattei, born in Ersa in Cap Corse, created the Cap Corse Mattei in 1872 in Bastia, an aperitif based on wine, plants, and cinchona. Cedratine, myrtle liqueur, and chestnut liqueur followed. One hundred and fifty years later, the shop at the port of Bastia is still there, and the bottle can be found behind bars from New York to Tokyo.
Three different sectors, one single lesson: Corsica does not sell itself as a backdrop; it is worked as a raw material.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best Corsican clothing brand?
There isn't just one, and be wary of anyone who claims otherwise. The right criterion is not a ranking, but the alignment between what the brand says and what it does: place of manufacturing, printing method, origin of the design. The eight brands on this list answer these questions, each in its own way.
What are the most famous Corsican brands, across all sectors?
Outside of fashion, three names go far beyond the island's borders: Casanera for cosmetics and perfume, Pietra for beer, and L.N. Mattei for aperitifs, founded in 1872 and therefore the oldest of all. We detail them above, in the "Beyond clothing" section.
Are there any Corsican brands that manufacture in France?
Yes, several, but rarely 100%. At TAFANELLI, a large part of production is French, and screen printing is done by hand in France. Our child range, Zitellu, is not yet produced in France, as children's sizing requires a specific workshop. We prefer to state that.
Where to buy Corsican brand clothing?
In boutiques on the island during the season, and online the rest of the year. The majority of these brands sell directly on their websites. For TAFANELLI, the stockist map lists all addresses, in Corsica and on the mainland.
Is an €80 Corsican t-shirt justified?
It depends entirely on what is in it. 280 g/m² organic cotton, hand-screen printing, a short run, and a mostly French supply chain do not have the same cost price as mass-printed textiles. We published the details of the calculation in a dedicated article.
By passing through Corsica, the customer becomes a friend.
